So I recently wrote an article for Memeburn about IBM’s supercomputer Watson and its victory on Jeopardy. You can find the article here. So, in the wake of the article, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing got in touch with us. Stephen Baker, an author and journalist made famous by his book The Numerati, has just published his new book Final Jeopardy: Man vs. Machines and the Quest to Know Everything. They had noticed the article and thought we might be interested.
The book is all about Watson, IBM and the events surrounding the Jeopardy match-up. Baker was allowed unparalleled access to the team behind Watson and the people behind the quizz-show showdown.
We responded that of course we were. Before we knew it, we were DHLed two copies of the new book and a whole bunch of other information on the topic. We’ve also been given the opportunity to talk to Stephen Baker himself, and we’ll keep you posted about that. It’s great to see a publishing giant like HMH make such an effort to promote its author’s work in such an attentive and helpful way. That really is the right way to build a good reputation. So tonight, when we’re reading our new books we’ll toast to them.
